Paying in

Paying in to a Junior Investment Account

You can pay in to your Junior Investment Account using the following methods:

Debit card

You can pay in online or telephone our Customer Service team or Dealing team and give your card details. Once payment has been authorised by your bank (usually within 15 minutes) you can place your dealing instructions.

We cannot accept payment by credit card.

Cheque

Please make cheques payable to The Share Centre Limited quoting your child's customer reference number and Junior Investment Account number on the reverse. When drawing a cheque from a building society account, please ask them to print your name on the reverse as confirmation the funds came from your account.

BACS/CHAPS

A BACS payment takes three working days to be received while a CHAPS payment will usually clear on the same day, but your bank will charge you for this. To make a payment by BACS or CHAPS contact your bank and provide them with:
1. Your child's customer reference number
2. Your child's Junior Investment Account number
3. Our bank account details:

Bank of Scotland
Branch = Edinburgh
Account number = 00100130
Sort code = 12 21 37
Account name = The Share Centre Limited Customer Transfer A/C

How can regular investing help me?

Who can pay into this account?

Only you can pay into the Junior Investment Account. Other people can contribute to your child's account, but this should be given via you.

All contributions, whether from you or from another, will count as a 'lifetime gift' for inheritance tax purposes and the implications of this should, therefore be borne in mind. Please note, there are differing tax treatments which may apply.

When can I start dealing?

Debit card and cheque

You can start dealing immediately if you pay in using your debit card or a cheque. Up to £25,000 is available straightaway, money above this amount will be made available once it has cleared, usually in 3 working days.

CHAPS

You can start dealing once the funds have cleared. Money paid via CHAPS will usually clear on the same day it was transferred.

BACS

You can start dealing once the funds have cleared, this usually takes 3 working days.

Transferring accounts

Having all your investments in one place makes them much easier to manage.

Transferring investments from other dealing accounts (and Share Certificates) to us is simple and hassle free.

Please complete and sign the relevant transfer forms and we'll take care of all the paperwork with your existing broker and let you know as soon as your account has been transferred.

Please bear in mind that your existing provider may also charge you for making a transfer.

It can take up to four to six weeks to process your transfer

Don't forget that the value and income from investments can go down as well as up and you will not be able to deal in your investments during the transfer. Therefore there is the potential that you may have a loss of income / growth whilst the transaction is being completed.
